Sawndip Tools

This site provides information on digital tools for dealing with Sawndip, the traditional writing system for Zhuang.

1) Offline character search - installations steps:-

First install apache 2 from command line typing "sudo apt-get install apache2", or download apache2.zip if you are using Sawndip2 on Ubuntu 12.04.

After apache2 has been installed then download search-debs.zip.

Unpack the zip file and install the packages inside by the method of your choice (commandline change to directory and type "sudo dpkg -i *deb").

After instalation the English version of the seach page will be at http://localhost/cgi-bin/search.cgi and the Chinese version at http://localhost/cgi-bin/zh.search.cgi.

2) Fonts for Sawndip

To type and display Sawndip you need to have a number of fonts installed. Many Sawndip are already encoded in Unicode as CJK ideographs and to cover the full range one needs at least two fonts. The other type of font that is required is a font which includes the PUA, or Private User Area, characters from the DSPP, Digital Sawndip Platform Project.
